Major Amber Birkle, U.S. Army, is a DNP student in the Family Nurse Practitioner program at the Uniformed Services University, Daniel K. Inouye Graduate School of Nursing in Bethesda, Maryland. She earned a BSN from Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 2006 and subsequently commissioned into the Army Nurse Corps. In 2016, she completed an MSN with an emphasis in Nursing Leadership and Health Systems Management from Drexel University. Major Birkle has spent much of her career assigned to clinical and leadership positions at the Army community hospitals at Fort Wainwright, Alaska; Fort Campbell, Kentucky; and Fort Irwin, California. She holds certifications as an Emergency Room Nurse but also has experience in Primary Care administration and leading Patient/Soldier Centered Medical Homes. In 2008-2009, she deployed to Baghdad, Iraq with the 10th Combat Support Hospital as an Emergency Nurse. Her clinical practice interests are diverse and include improving readiness among service members, women’s health, and diabetes management.

Dissertation: Auricular Acupuncture’s Role in the Management of Low Back Pain – Although my DNP project continues to evolve, it currently addresses the PICOT question; In adults with nonspecific low back pain, does auricular acupuncture provide improved pain and function within one month of initiation of therapy when compared to those who do not receive auricular acupuncture?
