Amy Thomas , BSN, RN, Jonas Scholar 2018-2020Washington State University PhD
I am a third year Baccalaureate-to-PhD student at Washington State University and am the recipient of WSU’s Ruth McGillis Bindler PhD Scholarship Endowment for 2017 and the George & Alice Barnes Williams Scholarship for 2018. My research interests focus on improving communicative access for patients with disabilities and making health care more equitable for patients diagnosed with chronic conditions. I graduated magna cum laude from the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Valdosta State University, GA in December 2014 where I was a student leader and peer tutor for incoming nursing students. While pursuing my PhD, I have worked in acute care as a float pool registered nurse. This hands-on experience allows me to both understand my phenomena of interest in a personal manner and integrate evidence-based practice in a meaningful way.
