I earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of San Francisco in 2013 where I graduated Magna Cum Laude with school honors and was invited into Sigma Theta Tau International Honors Society. As a new graduate I worked at City of Hope National Medical Center on a bone marrow transplant and hematology floor. I then worked at various outpatient surgery and endoscopy centers before moving back to San Francisco. Currently I am in the dual degree Master of Public Health and DNP- Family Nurse Practitioner program at the University of San Francisco with an anticipated graduation date of May 2020. I currently work at Stanford on the inpatient oncology and hematology floor.
Research/Clinical Practice Area: Jonas Scholar – Environmental Health
Dissertation: I am in the dual degree Master of Public Health and DNP- Family Nurse Practitioner program. I plan to focus on environmental carcinogen exposure by creating an education tool for the oncology patient population I currently work with. I will use a risk reduction strategy to focus on attainable changes and also provide information on their risks. While I currently work on an inpatient oncology and hematology unit, I would like to create a tool that can be implemented in the primary care setting as well. I have been working with oncology patients for around 4 years and have noticed that we receive a higher number of patients from the central valley, or areas where there seems to be higher environmental risk factors from pesticides and chemicals. This, along with my coursework, sparked an interest in environmental health which I feel needs to be a major focus for prevention.
