Carly Holmes, BSN, RN, is a dissertation-level PhD student at the School of Nursing, University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her major is pediatric psychiatric/mental health nursing with a minor in prevention/intervention science. Her research program focuses on child/adolescent attachment, self-regulation, and competency through implementation of effective community-based trauma-informed care interventions for youth with histories of maltreatment. After earning her BSN, Mrs. Holmes secured research assistant positions with two community-based participatory research teams, both promoting physical activity in community settings. In addition, she works with teams focused on brain/biological changes in youth with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and asthma advocacy in children aged 3–12 years. She is currently serving as the Translating Evidence to Practice in Public Health intern for the Wisconsin Public Health Research Network. She received the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute Conference Scholarship and Training Award for 2016 and founded an interdisciplinary Childhood Trauma Research Interest Group at the UW-Madison in 2017. She is a member of the Adolescent Health, Pediatric, and Translational Science Research Interest Groups of the Midwest Nursing Research Society and presented at its conferences in Milwaukee and Cleveland. She also presented a peer-reviewed abstract at the Academy Health Dissemination and Implementation Science Conference in Washington, DC. Mrs. Holmes is a Teaching Assistant and served as a mentor to an Honors student working in collaboration with the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County. She plans to establish a community-based trauma-informed residential program and implement effective equine therapy and sports programs for youth with maltreatment histories.
