I am currently enrolled in the BSN-PhD progam at UMSL-St. Louis with an interest in helping research interventions and solutions for veterans as they transition from service to civilian life. I served in the U.S. Army as a combat medic for 8 years with deployments to Afghanistan, during which I maintained NREMT certifcation and completed various military and homeland security coursework. The last two years of service I worked with trainees at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and was able to gain an appreciation for the stressors involved in the transition into service; on leaving the Army I gained firsthand knowledge of the system that churns out personnel, which along with my patients and friends experiences, I have gained an even finer appreciation for the issues involved. While in nursing school I was accepted into the VALOR student nurse program at VHA-St. Louis where I worked on a telemetry floor and attended classes on wound care and attained ACLS certification. After Passing the NCLEX I was accepted into the Transition to Practice Program at the VHA where I rotated through different specialty units, worked the floor in medsurg, and completed an EBP curriculm. After succussfully compelting the program I transitioned into a full time position as a Staff Nurse where I currently work, helping to improve the care provided and assisting with staff improvement concerns.
