My name is Humberto Ortiz and I am A Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in Bethlehem, Pa. In the fall of 2018, I will begin my first semester as a DNP student at the University of Alabama, Capstone College of Nursing. As a Nurse Anesthetist I practice a majority of the time at a Level 1 trauma hospital. In addition to my time spent at the Hospital, I am also an Independent contractor at an endoscopy center. Prior to becoming a CRNA, I’ve held several roles in the healthcare system including time spent as an Anesthesia Technician, and as Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care unit. I received my Bachelor’s Degree from Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA, and my Master’s Degree from La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA. I did my anesthesia training at Frank J. Tornetta School of Anesthesia. For 2 consecutive years I have been awarded with a St. Luke’s Night of Heroes award for the care of critically ill trauma patients. When I am not helping patients, I enjoy spending time with my wife and 3 children.

Dissertation: In adult patients during the perioperative period how effective is the use of a non narcotic anesthetic regimen versus the use of narcotics in decreasing the substance abuse during and after the surgical recovery?
