I am a BSN to DNP family nurse practitioner student at UNC Chapel Hill, and my practice of interests involves serving the Hmong community. I am Hmong and I’m able to connect with the Hmong to help individuals comprehend their health and navigate the US Healthcare System. I am motivated to learn more about healthcare within my doctoral studies, so I can serve as a bridge between my culture and modern medicine. As new immigrants, America’s population of Hmong nurse practitioners is currently low. My DNP project will be focusing on risk factors such as cultural diet, lifestyle behaviors, and diabetes management of the Hmong to improve outcomes in chronic diseases. My background in emergency nursing has led me to understand how healthcare currently operates: the majority of patients’ only seeking care at their worse health condition. As an aspiring practitioner, I hope to make a difference in our local and global community by shedding light on what is most important: helping people value the significance of health prevention measures. Presently, I have been invited to join Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society. My accomplishments further inspire me to achieve my ultimate goal in educating underserved communities about preventative health and wellness.
