Biography

Kate Miley, CNP, PMHNP-BC is a PhD student at the University of Minnesota, School of Nursing, and a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at the University of Minnesota outpatient Psychiatry Clinic specializing in the treatment of first episode psychosis and early mood disorders. Kate’s research interests include investigating and implementing novel treatment interventions for early stage mood and psychotic disorders with the ultimate goal of preventing the chronic functional disability, health disparities, and poor quality of life associated with severe mental illnesses. She is interested in non-pharmacological interventions that target cognitive dysfunction, and that may halt, slow, or prevent the progression of severe mental illnesses by focusing on brain health. Her current research focus is on a neuroscience-informed cognitive training intervention and its impact on the underlying neuropathology of cognitive symptoms in first episode psychosis. Kate earned her master of science degree in psychiatric/mental health nursing from Boston College, where she was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation scholar and a Keys to Inclusive Leadership scholar, and her bachelor degree in Philosophy from Northeastern University, graduating summa cum laude. Kate is an AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) alum.
