Biography

Andrea King, BSN, RN, CCRN is from Orange County, Virginia. She is currently a BSN-DNP Family Nurse Practitioner student at the University of Maryland. She is also pursing her Teaching in Nursing and Health Professions Certificate at the University of Maryland. Andrea completed her BSN at the University of Virginia where she was a Sonja Hoel-Perkins scholar and was very actively involved in several leadership positions, including a position on the State Board of Directors for the Virginia Nursing Students Association. Her research for her DNP project is still not chosen, however she has an interest in primary care across the lifespan, particularly pediatric pain control in the primary care setting. Andrea is employed as a certified adult critical-care nurse and have received an award for excellence in patient care. She serves on several committees in the medical intensive care unit, including the education committee. She orients and mentors new nurses, and she rotates the role of charge nurse. Andrea is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing as well as the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Andrea has a passion for helping others by being hands-on in practice and by teaching. Thus, her long-term goal is to practice in the primary care setting as a Family Nurse Practitioner and to spend some time teaching aspiring nurses at a nursing school.
