Andrew Kaminsky, , MSN, RNColumbia University DNP
I am a Psychiatric-Mental Health DNP student at Columbia University School of Nursing. I completed my MSN at Columbia in June of 2017 and continued into the Psychiatric DNP program in Fall of 2017. Prior to becoming a nurse, I served in the US Coast Guard in Boston, MA and Portland, OR. After leaving the military, I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Queens College. While I work towards my doctoral degree, I am pursuing research and clinical interests concerning the factors related to the emergence of Secondary Traumatic Stress disorder (STS) when a member of the immediate family returns home from active duty with PTSD. This topic is personally relevant, because I saw first-hand the emanating impact of psychological trauma sustained during military service, and how it can affect a family. Post-graduation, I’d like to pursue a career in psychiatric treatment of veterans. I am honored to be a Jonas Veterans Healthcare Scholar, and I hope to use this opportunity to connect with others in the field and to support the Jonas mission of scholarship, leadership and innovation.
