Biography

Dr. Rohan earned her BS degree with a major in Nursing from SUNY Binghamton (1987). She quickly moved into an acute care clinical career in New York City. While working as a staff nurse in the NICU at Cornell Medical Center (now New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center), she was selected for participation in the Cornell University Medical College Continuing Education Program for Nurses where she earned a Certificate as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (1989, prior to graduate degree requirement for APRNs). She soon earned her first MS degree from Columbia University (1991), and a Post-Graduate Certificate as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from SUNY Stony Brook (1993). Midway through her advanced practice career, Dr. Rohan returned to Columbia University where she earned a Ph.D. after being selected to become a member of the first national cohort of Jonas Nursing Scholars (2008-2013).

Dr. Rohan’s 30+ year advanced practice clinical career focusing on maternal-child populations notably supports her current academic priorities, which includes work as a national advisor to the American Nurses Association (Nurse Practice Advisory Council) and to the March of Dimes (Nurse Advisory Committee).

An avid writer, Dr. Rohan has received several awards recognizing innovative and scientific contributions supporting the evidence base for nursing and healthcare practice. Her educational research focuses on developing writing skills in graduate nursing students and using technology to enhance teaching and learning. Her interdisciplinary and interprofessional research focuses on using technology to address persistent issues impacting pediatric health. To achieve the educational goal of a more diverse healthcare workforce, Dr. Rohan has received nearly $3 million in federal and foundation grant funding to support the education of financially, educationally, or environmentally disadvantaged students who seek to become healthcare providers in underserved regions of New York.

Dr. Rohan serves as an onsite evaluator for the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), and is Associate Editor of MCN: The American Journal of Maternal-Child Nursing, where she oversees its “Toward Evidence-Based Practice” column.
