Biography

I have been an advanced practice nurse 21 of her 29 years as a nurse. I currently work within the Harris Health System at Lyndon B. Johnson as the Administrative Director of Nursing for Women, Infant, Childrens & 2nd floor Med/surg/Telemetry Services. I am currently in the Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) program at The University of Texas Health Science Center. Previously Educated at Loma Linda University & California State University of San Bernardino, with primary practicum training in the largest county in the country and at two premier facilities; one known for their preventive health model (Kaiser) and the other for a landmark history making baboon heart transplant (Loma Linda University). My previous work spans the scope from medical surgical, rehabilitation, Intensive Care, Public Health, Neonatology, Pediatrics, Women’s and building out Ambulatory care offices as a Pediatric and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. I have extensive expertise in innovative program development; especially in Women, Infant & Children health. As an Administrator & Clinical Nurse Specialist I’ve focused on implementing changes in clinical practice based on the evidence available from research, sentinel event corrections, expert opinion, and scientific evidence. I understand the value of a multidisciplinary/inter-professional approach and collaborated as one of the authors of the Neonatal Drug Formulary in 2002 which was distributed to every Neonatal Intensive Care Unit internationally. I view my journey in nursing as a commitment dedicated to service. I have been honored to receive acknowledgement awards of my work from Nurse.com and TNA. (see above)
