Catherine Trossello, FNP

New York University DNP
Biography

I currently work in a community health center that serves a largely undocumented and uninsured population. This setting requires profound cultural sensitivity and clear communication skills. The clinic has many family providers but I am the only nurse practitioner on staff. As such, I am often asked to train nursing staff in a variety of areas, including effective triaging and medication administration. I also orient and train new providers whether they are MD or PA, and I was a preceptor a nurse practitioner student as well. In addition to adult and pediatric primary care, I work along side an obstetrician and together we have started a low risk prenatal care clinic within the health center. We work together to develop guidelines and train staff in order to achieve the best outcomes for our patients. We use evidence based practices and the guidelines based upon those practices to offer the best care possible to our patient population. I have been practicing as a FNP for almost 5 years and will be starting my DNP in the fall. I look forward to learning how to be an effective leader so that I can enhance my ability to train and teach, especially nurses and nurse practitioners. I hope to improve my ability to analyze, interpret and institute evidence based practices into my daily practice and help other health care professionals do the same.
