Oakland University DNP
Biography

I am currently in the DNP program at Oakland University, in Rochester Hills, Michigan. My particular interests in research involve pediatric and adolescent health with regard to respiratory disease, adherence to treatment and the effects of the environment. I first began my career as an educator in the public school system in the inner city in Los Angeles, CA. It was at this point I noticed the influence of education on maintaining health. I later received my BSN at Madonna University, Livonia, MI and worked in a variety of settings, along with having the opportunity to experience healthcare while living in Europe. After teaching nursing at small school for vocational nurses, I decided to return to school to obtain my MSN to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. I am currently practicing in an asthma, allergy, pulmonary practice that includes pediatric and adult patients. My interest in combining research, education and nursing practice, has brought me full circle to the DNP program at Oakland University. In addition to my nursing role, I also am a member of the National Ski Patrol, and teach Outdoor Emergency Care, and have done so for the past 12 years. In addition to this, I am the Regional Young Adult Program Advisor and a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity, where I am the Historian/Reporter for my alumni group. I am a member of Sigma Theta Tau, MICNP, and ANCC and have been happily married for 28 years, with 2 children.
