Biography

Christie Simon-Waterman, Nurse, Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Patient Advocate. I was born in the Island of Trinidad and Tobago West Indies. For over 16 years I have been a member of the nursing profession. In 1996 I graduated from Iona College as an L.P.N. 1997 A.A. (nursing); The College of New Rochelle 2001, and Coppin State University FNP program 2010. I am now pursuing my DNP at University Of Maryland. My career as a nurse spans through several different aspect of nursing. It began In Brooklyn New-York as a bedside nurse in Long Term Care; the Emergency room and then as a supervisor. I then moved to Maryland where my work experience included Johns Hopkins Pediatrics at Home; Nursing Supervisor, Performance Improvement/Infection Control Manager , Director Of Nursing and presently Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP). The love, fulfillment and passion that providing quality care for patients and their family bring have driven me to become involved in Nursing legislation and the policies and practices that govern the profession. I am an Active member of the Maryland Nurses Association Legislative committee since 2009. I have testified on bills such as those which mandated clinical hours for nurses, cultural competencies and numerous others. In 2011-2012 I represented Maryland as the Nurse Representative at the American Nurses Advocacy Institute (ANAI) and 2013 I received MNA Leadership award. I am the proud recipient of the Jonas Nurse Leadership Scholarship. I presently hold the position of the President of District Two Maryland Nurses Association.
