Biography

Once I received my nursing license, I immediately began working int he emergency department at Community Medical Center in Toms River, New Jersey; followed shortly therafter working per diem on the inpatient psychiatric unit at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold. Once I gained the necessary experience, I left the emergency department to work as a critical care transport nurse. My educational goals did not wane, and I continued with the baccalaureate program at Kean University followed directly by the master’s program also with Kean University. In 2009 I joined the New Jersey Army National Guard, and was a direct commission as a second lieutenant. While there, I built a database for tracking the medical records of New Jersey soldiers, started the unit newsletter and built the unit website. In 2012 I was selected by the New Jersey State Surgeon to be the Army Public Health Nurse for the state, and completed the training at Fort Sam Houston in conjunction with Texas A&M. As an officer in the New Jersey Army National Guard, I am driven by the Army values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage. These values, while shared by many who serve our country, are what drive me personally, and to help others who serve. Suicide in the Army has become very bewildering, confounded by the ever increasing rate in the National Guard. My current research is aimed at identifying biomarkers for suicide with the aim of identifying those at risk.
