Biography

I have 30 years of clinical nursing experience, 19 as a Family Nurse Practitioner, and a decade of “on the ground” study of quality improvement, program development and change agency. I have worked in the field of HIV care and treatment for 26 years; I grew up with the epidemic working as a home care and hospice nurse in San Francisco in the late 1980’s, and have been an HIV specialist since the inception of the certification. Four years ago, I moved from a practice with a socially and medically stable HIV+ population to work in addiction medicine with a patient population impacted by poly-substance abuse, mental illness, poverty and multiple medical co-morbidities including HIV. My academic and professional goal is to be a healthcare quality expert. My area of interest is engagement in care for people diagnosed with a substance use disorder (SUD) and living with HIV.
