Biography

Danya Garner is a student in the Nursing PhD Program at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. He graduated Cum Laude with a BSN from Stephen F. Austin State University. After gaining several years of nursing experience, he then graduated as the Outstanding Graduate Student from the School of Nursing with a MSN from the University of Houston – Victoria with a Nurse Educator concentration. Danya’s passion for nursing began at the age of 16 when he obtained his certified nurses’ assistant credentials and worked summers at a skilled nursing facility. His clinical nursing experience includes bone marrow transplant, oncology, medical/surgical intensive care, and neurological patient populations. In addition, he has experience as a clinical instructor in both associate and baccalaureate degree nursing programs, as well as serving as a preceptor for nursing students in MSN programs. Danya is currently employed as a Nurse Educator at a comprehensive cancer center where he assesses, plans, and implements educational programs for the novice to the expert oncology nurse. He is active on the boards of the local affiliates of the Oncology Nursing Society and the Association for Nursing Professional Development. Danya’s research interests include oncology nursing perspectives in vulnerable patient populations.
