Emilia Flores, MS, RN

Biography

Emilia Flores, MS, RN is a T32 pre-doctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Nursing. Emilia’s research interests include identifying the impact of technology on patient safety and the provision of care in healthcare systems. In addition, she focuses on how behavioral economics and human factors engineering principles can be used to promote technology acceptance and enhance the quality of health service delivery. Previously, Emilia managed the software validation and compliance program for the European division of Stryker, based in Switzerland. She also served as a manager and mentor in the KPMG Advisory practice in Singapore, where she focused on risk management, compliance, and technology and process integration. Emilia has managed a variety of clients from healthcare systems to technology firms and government agencies. Emilia received her MS and BSN from the University of Pennsylvania and a BS in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University. At the University of Pennsylvania, her mentors are Dr. Kathryn Bowles, PhD, RN, Dr. Alison Buttenheim, PhD, and Dr. Craig Umscheid MD, MSCE. Emilia is also a Hillman Scholar for Nursing Innovation and is a member of the American Medical Informatics Association and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society.
