Biography

My name is Gabrielle Johnson, and a current student enrolled in the MSN-Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at Azusa Pacific University (APU) as the first student to complete the degrees concurrently. I have achieved a Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) Degree in 2017 and Bachelor of Science, Public Health Degree (BSPH) in 2016, which both have aided in the development for my passion for community-based healthcare. In 2017, I was promoted to Assistant Director of the APU Homeless Outreach Program working directly with homeless residents of the Greater Los Angeles area. Through my work with the Outreach, I have documented an upward trend in homeless female veterans and those who are pregnant and living on the streets. My realizations have led to my interest in developing a prevention program for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder with goals to establish a Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) Policy. As Assistant Director of the Homeless Outreach, I lecture quarterly to the MSN Community Health course at APU to educate students on evidence-based practices for developing successful techniques for working for homeless and underserved populations. For the past eight months, I have been the MSN student representative and worked closely with both my fellow students and APU Faculty. During my undergraduate degree in Public Health, I completed each semester on the Dean’s List and was voted into office as President of Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society and President of the American Medical Student Association.
