Biography

Gina Gutierrez-Rawson has over 35 years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse in various settings. She received her Bachelor of Science, Nursing degree from Syracuse University and Master of Science, Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner certification from Upstate Medical University Syracuse, NY. In 1994, she took her oath, as a lieutenant in the US Army Nurse Corps. Because of her experience as an ICU nurse, she became one of the nurse subject matter experts and educators in nursing and healthcare for the 865th Combat Support Hospital, Utica, NY. She served in numerous 865th CSH medical missions to Latin American countries, receiving outstanding commendation and performance awards in all these missions, including her mobilization to Active Duty in 2004- 2009, in support of OEF/OIF/Noble Freedom at Fort Lewis Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, Washington and Fort Irwin, California. She received her Honorable Discharge in May, 2009, as a Major. She has more than 22 years of service at the Veterans Health Administration, serving the VISN 2 and VISN 22. In 2007, she was appointed the VA Long Beach Women Veterans Program Manager to execute comprehensive planning for women’s health issues that improve the overall quality of care provided to women Veterans and achieve program goals and outcomes. She was the Interim-VISN 22 Lead WVPM from 2009-2010, initiating changes throughout the network towards comprehensive women’s health care, moving towards a team model where gender specific primary care is provided by the same clinician that renders other routine primary care.
