Biography

My name is Heaven Gustafson and I was born and raised in rural Grand Rapids, Minnesota. I completed my Bachelor of Science: Nursing degree in 2013. I am entering my third year of the DNP program (Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) track) at The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota. I work at Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital in the Medical/Surgical/Pediatric unit and the Women’s Health & Birth unit. I also precept new employees at this facility. During the 2015-2016 academic year I worked as adjunct clinical faculty at The College of St. Scholastica. I taught undergraduate nursing students in a hospital setting. My DNP clinical project focuses on improving the discharge process in an inpatient hospital unit through the implementation of patient discharge goals and assessing patients’ perception of their readiness to discharge. Some of my areas of interest include: rural health, primary care, health care disparities, education, and infectious and respiratory diseases. I chose to pursue the FNP track because I enjoy working with a diverse patient population of all ages.
