Helen Nwangwu is a DNP Student at Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona, California. Her research interest is in improving treatment adherence through enhanced self-efficacy and collaborative services to meet the care needs of adults 65 years and over with mental illness. She earned her BSN and MSN (FNP) from Azusa Pacific University, Azusa, California. Helen later obtained her post master’s certificate as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) also from Azusa Pacific University. Mrs. Nwangwu has worked as a mental health nurse at different healthcare systems, including the Department of Mental Health, Los Angeles, California. She currently works as a Nurse Practitioner at the Veterans’ Affairs hospital, Long Beach, California. Helen is a senior adjunct faculty at Azusa Pacific University and she teaches in the PMHNP program. She received Spiritual Care award from Azusa Pacific University in May 2007 and a special recognition for her contribution to the growth of the PMHNP program in May 2018. She chaired the Vision and Mission Statement committee for the City of Duarte’s Youth and Family Master Plan. Both the city of Duarte and Duarte Unified School District presented her with appreciation and merit awards for her contribution to the successful completion of the Master Plan. Helen is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing- Iota Sigma Chapter, California Association for Nurse Practitioners (CANP), Pasadena chapter and American Psychiatric Nurses Association.
