Biography

Jamie Smith began her nursing studies in Philadelphia, receiving her Bachelors in Nursing at Thomas Jefferson University. Building on her public health background, Ms. Smith continued there to earn a Master’s in Nursing concentrating in Community Systems Administration. While working on a dynamic intermediate ICU, Ms. Smith developed an appreciation for interdisciplinary collaboration when caring for complex patients. In an effort to contribute to the nursing profession, she was elected to serve on the American Nurses’ Association’s Congress on Nursing Practice and Economics. And later advocated for nurses and patients in her role as Director of Practice and Education at the New Jersey State Nurses Association. One of Ms. Smith’s primary responsibilities there was to promote and support legislative efforts on behalf of New Jersey nurses. Ms. Smith is currently a full time student pursuing a PhD at Rutgers University, College of Nursing. Her research interest is care coordination, focusing on evaluating existing models and nursing interventions for efficacy. In 2012, Ms. Smith began a Teaching Fellowship at Rutgers, which allows her the opportunity to teach undergraduate nursing students in the clinical setting.
