University of Oklahoma PhD
Biography

I am finishing my second year of PhD coursework at the University of Oklahoma, where I continue to be inspired to pursue a path of lifelong learning and nursing research. I was honored to be a first-ever recipient of the Women and Child Health Initiative Predoctoral Scholarship for 2014-2016. Through my doctoral education, I have had opportunities to present research at the Midwest Nursing Research Society’s Annual Conferences in 2015 and 2016 as well as to attend the Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science conferences in 2014 and 2015. I am currently employed at East Central University where I coordinate the women’s health, obstetrical, and neonatal content course for pre-licensure nursing students. In addition, I coordinate the pre-licensure nursing research course, and assist or co-coordinate other courses primarily in the senior year. I am very active in committees at the School of Nursing and University level. I mentor and guide honor students in completing honor’s projects and theses. I have practiced clinically in the areas of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and mother-baby (including postpartum women, newborn nursery, and transition nursery). I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1999 and a Master of Science in 2004 from the University of Oklahoma. I maintain certification in neonatal intensive care nursing and as a nursing educator. I am a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, Honor Society of Nursing, the National League for Nursing, and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nursing.
