New York University PhD
Biography

Jennifer graduated with her BSN in 2007 from Arizona State University and with her MS in nursing in 2014 from New York University. She is currently a family nurse practitioner and PhD candidate at New York University Rory Meyers College of Nursing. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (STTI) and the International Nurses Society on Addictions (IntNSA). She became interested in substance abuse research during her FNP program at NYU, where she completed the Substance Abuse Research Education and Training (SARET) program. SARET is an NIH-funded summer research intensive developed to introduce a variety of health disciplines to the importance of research in this understudied area. She completed the Substance Use Disorders Specialty Sequence in her graduate program and began her PhD program with a passion for finding ways to deliver safe, equitable care for people who use or inject drugs. The focus of her dissertation is the role of structural, social, and individual determinants in the transition from prescription opioid misuse to heroin use. Ultimately, she would like to develop nurse-led interventions that provide harm reduction strategies for those who continue to use drugs but wish to do so in the safest way possible.
