Biography

My passion in nursing is helping people living with HIV access quality medical care no matter where they live. As a former field nurse with MĂ©decins sans Frontieres/Doctors Without Borders, I have worked with HIV and tuberculosis patients in South Africa, Central African Republic, Lesotho, and Guinea. My work centered around building and maintaining HIV programming in difficult operating environments. For my PhD/DNP program, I am studying to become a Family Nurse Practitioner with a specialty certification in HIV/AIDS primary care, while working on my PhD dissertation that will focus on interventions to increase retention in care for HIV and MDR-TB co-infected patients in South Africa. Upon graduation from this program, I hope to continue to work with international NGO’s to help design HIV programs that work, no matter how challenging the setting. It is my firm belief that no one should have to die of a treatable disease simply because they cannot access care due to war, poverty, or a failing health system.

Notes

Research/Clinical Practice Area: Jonas Veterans Healthcare Scholar – Community-based Care
Dissertation: I am unsure of my dissertation title, but I plan to study interventions to increase access to and retention in care for patients co-infected with HIV and multi drug resistant tuberculosis in South Africa.
