Biography

Embarking upon my career a decade ago, my goal was to work in primary care practice with underserved patient populations to impact health disparities. As a current Family Nurse Practitioner student and Doctor of Nursing Practice candidate, I continue to draw from my professional nursing experiences as a RN working with diverse populations in an outpatient setting in Interventional Nephrology. Many patients require advocacy at every level of care, it is essential to build and sustain connections with stakeholders within the community in order to direct patients to effective healthcare outcomes. I acknowledge my role within the healthcare community as a change agent in identifying and tackling perpetual structural violence that contributes to the inequity in quality healthcare access. My interest in advocacy and participation in health policy has provided . I am the Shearer Student Fellowship Chapter Leader of the California Health Professional Student Alliance at Samuel Merritt. I had the opportunity to attend the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Student Policy Summit this past March in Washington, D.C. with fellow nursing students from across the country. Attending this conference exposed me to the impact of policy engagement in the field of nursing. It has inspired me to strengthen my dedication to health policy and patient advocacy as I progress in my career in primary care.
