Biography

Kimberly Lewis is a PhD student at the University of Texas at Austin and is starting a new role as the Seton Network’s Research Specialist RN in June 2016. Kimberly is passionate about advancing nursing science, mentoring, and advocating for nursing research in a multi-professional environment. Kimberly earned a bachelor’s degree in nutrition science from UT Austin and then a master’s degree in child health nursing and teaching from the UT School of Nursing Alternate Entry program. She decided to become a nurse after volunteering at Dell Children’s Medical Center in both the NICU and the Children’s Blood and Cancer Center, where she witnessed the impact of exceptional nursing care on the lives of patients. She has worked in pediatric critical care, clinical research, home health, and outpatient settings. Her dissertation topic is related to inflammation and nutrition in pediatric chronic conditions with a current focus on children with juvenile arthritis. She serves on national and local committees, including Arthritis Foundation, Graduate Student Assembly Academic Affairs, and Seton Nursing Research Council. She participated in the Young Women’s Alliance mentoring program-YWA Connect-in 2015-2016. She received the Outstanding Graduate Student Award, Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society’s Love of Learning Award, and Sigma Theta Tau International Graduate Student Scholarship Award.
