University of Texas Medical Branch DNP
Biography

I am enrolled in the Doctor of Nursing Practice at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas. I also graduated from the UTMB in 1993 with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing. Over the next six years I worked as a Registered Nurse in the CCU, ICU, CTCU, NeuroICU, as well as Telemetry, Med/Surg, Burn Unit, Neurology, and Ambulatory Surgical Unit in Galveston and Augusta, GA. I took a leave from active nursing to raise my children and returned in 2009 as a clinic nurse. I had always been interested in becoming a nurse practitioner and my experience in the clinic only reinforced this desire. I returned to my alma mater to complete the Master of Science in Nursing in 2013 and subsequently certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Presently, I work at Baylor College of Medicine where I am driven by my passion for gastroenterology to care for the county’s indigent patients. I hope to further my knowledge base in this specialty in conjunction with my DNP studies to translate evidence based practice to develop more effective clinical protocols and improve patient outcomes. My goal is to become a DNP and to care for the physical and emotional well-being of my patients.
