I, Lori Ann Palmieri, graduated from Seton Hall University (BSN) in 1989, worked as a medical-surgical nurse for 15 years at a local community hospital, became a Nurse Educator (2003), and then an Assistant Director of Nursing (2005) within a long-term care facility. I became interested in pursuing a graduate degree in nursing education, graduated from William Paterson (MSN) in 2007, and began teaching at Bloomfield College as an Assistant Professor. I achieved Tenure and Promotion in 2014. The College’s mission is to prepare students to attain academic, personal and professional excellence in a multicultural and global society, and the mission guides my practice. Most of my students are first-generation, non-traditional students who are in pursuit of their BSN; for many of my students, English is not their native language. Since 2010 I have been traveling to the Dominican Republic (DR) with Inter-Cultural Nursing Inc. (based out of Rhode Island) to provide health education via nurse-led clinics to the rural residents of the DR. Since 2013 I have been bringing nursing students along to participate in the clinics and to complete their capstone projects. This summer I will be traveling to Kenya (with Foundation for Peace) to participate in community building, HIV education and TB transmission prevention over a two week period. Upon my return I will be attending a 2 week conference at the United Nations which addresses global bio-ethic issues. My current research interests include: cultural competency, cultural desire, and global health promotion/education.
