Biography

Ms. Savage is pursing her PhD in Nursing at the University of Kansas with a concentration in Informatics and Patient Safety, while working as a part time graduate teaching assistant. Her research interests include human factors and workarounds, specifically with barcoding technology. Additionally, Ms. Savage is the Associate Vice President of Quality and Patient Safety at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Virginia. She has 20 years of clinical nursing, quality, patient safety and leadership experience, with progressive leadership roles. Ms. Savage received her BSN from The Catholic University of America and her MSN in Nursing Administration from George Mason University. She holds post graduate certificates in Patient Safety, Quality Improvement and Outcomes and is a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt. Ms. Savage holds professional certifications as an Advanced Nurse Executive (NEA-BC), a Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) and a Project Management Professional (PMP). In 2001, Ms. Savage won the Virginia State Centinneal Nurse Award for excellence in nursing and leadership as a newly practicing nurse. Ms. Savage has volunteers at the State and National level in quality and process improvement, serving as President of the Virginia Association for Healthcare Quality in 2013. Most recently, Ms. Savage is serving on the National Association of Healthcare Quality’s Education Commission and recently accepted the position of Conference Chairperson for the 2017 National Education Conference.
