Biography

Currently enrolled in the graduate program, BSN to PhD track at UTHSCSA; completed first year of education. Clinical practice interests entail women’s health, specifically with pregnant clients. Attend school part time and work full time at University Hospital. Devoted Registered Nurse with 14 years of experience in OB/GYN Services. Solid foundation in nursing practice, critical thinking, adult education, cultural sensitivity, and customer service. Special interest in coordinating, developing, and implementing educational activities for professional development and patient education. Experienced in providing patient education in both English and Spanish. As a staff nurse, the first priority is to implement the nursing process and delegate patient care activities as appropriate. Secondly, perform leadership skills in enhancing patient care for high risk obstetrical patients. Third, collaborate with health care providers to deliver optimal patient care. Last, serve as a mentor and role model to all staff. As Birth Coordinator for current practice area, assist with the daily functions of the women’s health program. In addition, collaborate with Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Neonatal-Perinatal Program, and other prenatal groups to coordinate prenatal classes and patient navigation to our hospital’s maternity services. Participated in various hospital’s committees and councils, community outreach, and one hospital research project. Maintain specialty certifications in inpatient OB and Childbirth Education. Aspire to conduct research in eliminating health disparities for Spanish speaking, immigrant women from Mexico and Latin America.
