I graduated from Boston College in 2004 with my BSN and began working at UCLA in the Neuro-Trauma ICU. Here I participated in the Clinical Practice Committee helping to write the nursing guidelines and policies using an evidence-based approach. In 2005 I joined the Air National Guard and commissioned as a flight nurse. As Officer in Charge of Aircrew Training at the 146th Aeromedical Squadron, I manage educational programs that train new students and maintain currency on active members. I have deployed three times with my unit where I led aeromedical flight crews evacuating sick and injured patients in the Middle East, Europe and the United States. I graduated from the University of Southern California with my master’s degree in nurse anesthesia and have been working at the West Los Angeles VA Hospital as a nurse anesthetist for the past two years. Currently I teach nurse anesthesia classes at USC and ACLS at the VA hospital, in addition to the classes I teach in the military. I am hoping to pursue a career in nursing education and research. For this reason I will be enrolling in the PhD program at the University of San Diego with an anticipated graduation date of May, 2017. My military experience and position in the VA system allows me a special connection with the veteran patient. I hope I can make a contribution to veterans’ health care with study and improvement of the way we manage their pain.
