Biography

Nicole Smith is a Georgia native who graduated from North Carolina A&T State University in 2009 with her BSN and received her Masters with a focus in leadership and nursing education from The University of Maryland School of Nursing in 2014. Nicole is a certified nurse educator currently working as a full time faculty member and Clinical Simulation Laboratory Coordinator at The University of Maryland School of Nursing, Shady Grove Campus where she has taught in didactic, laboratory and clinical settings. Nicole also maintains her clinical practice on weekends as a bedside nurse at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC where she has worked since 2009; and was selected as unit Nurse of the Year in 2012. Mrs. Smith’s scholarly pursuits seek to advance knowledge in active learning strategies through the use of technology. She has presented some of her innovative teaching strategies at local and international conferences and won awards for her innovation, creativity and leadership in the classroom. Her faculty colleagues selected her for the 2016 New Faculty Award, and the undergraduate students selected her for the 2016 Excellence in Teaching Award. She will begin full-time doctoral study in the PhD, Nursing-Education program at Mercer University in the fall of 2016.
