Biography

Roberto L. Roman Laporte is currently in the DNP program at Johns Hopkins University. He graduated with his MSN in 2014 from the University of Miami and completed his undergraduate studies at Miami Dade College with honors. He is a Certified Medical Surgical Registered Nurse and is also a Preceptor Specialist (certified preceptor awarded by the American Academy for Preceptor Advancement). He has been a nurse for over seven years and has practiced as a Medical-Surgical Oncology nurse and is cross-trained in the Progressive Care Unit. He currently is a corporate Clinical Learning Educator working closely with the RN Residency and Preceptor Programs at Baptist Health South Florida. He is a former director of nursing for a practical nurse program. He is a co-investigator for two research studies one study focusing on the Married State Preceptorship Model and the other study focusing on Unit-based Competencies. He has received numerous accolades from patients, which earned him the Doctors Hospital Nightingale Award in 2011. He also received the Nurse of the Year award for Doctors Hospital, 2 West. On his spare time he helps new graduate nurses prepare for the NCLEX-RN. He is currently a member of a new committee called WINN-NTF (Workforce Integration of New Nurses-Nursing the Future). Roberto is passionate about working with new graduate nurses and newly licensed registered nurses and wants to improve their transition to practice.
