Biography

Sandra Leon will begin her studies as a Doctorate of Nursing Practice student at New York University in the fall. She received her Masters of Science in Nursing as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from New York University in 2011, a Bachelors of Science in Nursing at Molloy College in 2004 and a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2001. She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners of New York, American Nurses Association, New York Nurses Association, National Association of Hispanic Nurses and Sigma Theta Tau, Upsilon Chapter. Ms. Leon began her nursing career as a staff nurse on a GI/GU surgical unit at New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell. She advanced her career through the clinical ladder with promotions to Senior Staff Nurse and Nurse Clinician. Upon procurement of her Masters degree, she was appointed to the position of Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with Colon and Rectal Surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell. With over 10 years of combined academic education and 12 years of experiential learning in nursing, she has acquired the knowledge and skills necessary to be a leader in her field. She has been involved in unit based quality improvement projects and educational training for staff nurses and interns/residents. Ms. Leon is looking forward to expanding her knowledge and practice with the DNP program and exploring research opportunities in colon and rectal cancer with an emphasis on ostomates.
