Biography

I am currently in Georgetown University’s DNP program studying the effects of institutionalization among adolescent psychiatric inpatients. I am currently faculty at the University of Colorado Schools of Medicine and Nursing, and my practice is at the Children’s Hospital Colorado, where I am an attending provider on the inpatient child and adolescent psychiatric unit. Prior to my current position at the University of Colorado, I served as a medical officer in the United States Air Force, where I was a Distinguished Graduate from Officer Training School. I had assignments at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Buckley Air Force Base, and Fort Carson’s Evans Army Hospital. I served as the chief of disaster mental health and combat operational stress control, and was awarded the U.S. Air Force Commendation Medal. Over the past decade I have been involved in research at both the University of Washington and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia with a focus on treatment adherence among individuals living with HIV/AIDS. I am a former F. Edward Hebert Armed Forces Health Professions Scholar and a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation NCIN Scholar. I also volunteer with a disaster relief organization, Team Rubicon, and most recently deployed to serve and provide medical care to communities in Puerto Rico and Houston who were impacted by hurricanes Maria and Harvey, respectively.
