Biography

I have been working as an RN at the University Neuropsychiatric Institute, UNI, now for 15 years. While at UNI, I have worked in numerous nursing roles and have worked with various teams and departments across the hospital on multiple projects and initiatives to improve the patient and employee experience. I have enjoyed training new hires and mentoring Capstone students. In 2017, I decided to continue my education and started the Doctorate of Nursing Practice Mental Health Program through the University of Utah in the fall of 2018. Over the last 15 years at UNI, I have had the pleasure of working with numerous veteran patients as UNI partners with the VA to care for their overflow patients. These experiences combined with the resilience, gratitude, and honor my father gained from his experience fighting in the Vietnam War inspired me to focus my studies on the veteran population. On May 14, 2018, I began the Veteran Affairs Nursing Academic Partnership (VANAP) Nurse Practitioner Training Program. I look forward to strengthening my experience and education with the men and women that have worked to protect our country and to have the opportunity to do so in a facility known for excellent care, extensive resources, interdisciplinary team approach, and drive to improve patient outcomes. As part of the Doctor of Nursing Practice, DNP, program I will be completing an extensive research project investigating and educating mental health professionals on complementary evidenced based treatment for PTSD to help reduce suffering in the community.
