I am currently enrolled in the Doctor of Nursing Science (DNS) program at Sage Graduate School. I currently have an associate degree in nursing, a bachelors degree in nursing and a masters degree in nursing. I work as a clinical education specialist at Albany Medical Center as well as a nursing faculty member and program director of surgical technology at Hudson Valley Community College. I developed a curriculum in surgical technology for Hudson Valley Community college and we are seeking the initial accreditation currently. My past roles have been as a staff nurse in a level one trauma center operating room, a nursing supervisor in a long term care setting and an assistant nurse manager in a level one trauma center operating room. I plan to study knowledge translation within the first year of nursing practice. Research states that nurses who are in their first year of practice, do not feel adequately prepared and as a result we are seeing poor quality scores and a rise in unsafe practice. I hope to bridge this gap by testing interventions that lead to knowledge translation within this population and ultimately improve patient safety and quality. I would like to ultimately implement a knowledge Translation model into practice where all education interventions are developed using this model; bridging this gap on a larger scale.
