Stephanie Thomas
Biography
My name is Stephanie Thomas. I have been a registered nurse for over 20 years serving in many capacities of leadership. My background includes med/surg and intensive care as well as utilization review, medical review and case management. After completing my Master’s degree I began my career in education and have enjoyed it immensely. After dealing with a family struggle in the area of hypertension and watching how hard it was to alter learned behaviors to make positive and effective change, I decided it was time to learn more. I am currently enrolled in the PhD of Nursing program at Georgia State University. My area of research interest will be Hypertension in African Americans as it relates to education and behavior modification. I recently completed the Graduate Certificate of Public Health which gave me a completely different perspective on behavior modification. I currently serve as the Course Facilitator for Fundmentals of Nursing and Intermediate Concepts of Nursing at Georgia Perimeter College as well as the current Chair of Student Affairs and the Pinning Committee. I am a current Girl Scout Leader in Rockdale County and serve as the Rockdale County Board representative on the DBHHD, Region 3 Planning Board. I am a mother of two and continue to have a wonderful, supportive family as I pursue my dream to complete my terminal degree.
