Biography

Ms. DeBastiani holds a Master of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins’s Bloomberg School of Public Health and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from West Virginia University. Some of her most outstanding accomplishments include achieving the incorporation of HIV testing in the student health program at WVU, the basis of her senior capstone project, and being elected vice-president of the only student organization dedicated to global health. Ms. DeBastiani is an experienced critical care nurse and has provided health and human services domestically and internationally to at-risk and vulnerable populations. Ms. DeBastiani was certified as a critical care nurse by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and held clinical positions at West Virginia University Hospital; in the Jinja province of Uganda, where she worked for an American-based non-governmental health care organization in malaria prevention and treatment; and as a nurse volunteer in Manang, Nepal while working for the Himalayan Rescue Association. She also worked as a home health nurse in in New Zealand, where she continues to hold her nursing license. Ms. DeBastiani is very dedicated to becoming a nurse scientist and advancing the knowledge of her discipline. She has authored publications in the Journal of the American Medical Association, among others, and delivered presentations at national venues in her area of expertise, public health and emergency preparedness.
