Biography

Suzanne M. Hyer is a Jonas Nurse Leader Scholar with the PhD program at the University of Central Florida. Her nursing career started in 1999 in South Florida. Her clinical experience includes patients in the cardiovascular intensive care unit and pre- and post-operative units. Later, she chose to teach and consult clinically with pharmaceutical and biomedical device industries. She earned her BSN, Magna Cum Laude, from Regis University. While attending Loyola University, New Orleans earning her MSN, she was inducted as a member of the Xi Psi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. It was during this time that she turned her focus to health promotion. Her graduate capstone project included work at the US Embassy, Panama Health Unit. Here she had the opportunity to research and implement the principles of health promotion. While living overseas, she was a recipient of the Department of State’s Professional Development Fellowship. For her dissertation work, Suzanne will explore the implementation of health promotion within nursing practice.
