Tara Brandner, FNP

George Washington Univeristy DNP
Biography

I was born and raised in Ashley, North Dakota. I attended undergrad school at the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND. During my time at the University of Mary I was active in the Nursing Peer Mentor Program, Red Cross volunteer, Public Health Emergency Volunteer, Student Development Senior Class Representative, and served on our Student Nursing Association as the director of publicity and communication. I also served in that position on the North Dakota State Nursing Student Association. As a nurse I served on nursing cabinet, rounding committee, Lean Six Sigma, and the professional practice committee. Currently, I am enrolled in the BSN-DNP program at the George Washington University. I will complete my FNP program this summer. I am a member of the GWU Golden Key Honor Society and Phi Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau.. My research area of interest stems back to my community as I will be providing care to patients in an under-served area in rural North Dakota. A majority of the patient population are elderly with chronic health conditions ranging from heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and cancer. The greatest contributing factor to these health conditions is the lack of patient education and guidance in lifestyle modifications. I will work towards bridging the gap between patients and available education as well as providing the necessary guidance for lifestyle modifications while living in a rural setting. Through my research, I will focus on the impact of healthy lifestyle modifications on chronic diseases.
