Biography

TyQuitta Perrier currently attends Yale University pursuing a DNP. She received Post-Master’s certification from Georgia Southern University as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She obtained a Master of Science in Nursing from Troy State University as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She also attended Albany State University as a Presidential Scholar, where she attained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She is a dually certified nurse practitioner currently working as a Psychiatric NP in an integrated Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). She functions there as the sole psychiatric provider and psychiatric consultant to outlying primary health clinics. She has served in diverse roles throughout her nursing career, but has focused on serving vulnerable and underserved populations. She is a former United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps Officer, serving under the Surgeon General providing care on U.S. military bases through a Traumatic Brain Injury and mental health initiative. During this experience, she responded to domestic humanitarian efforts domestically providing care during hurricane disaster responses, and assisted with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility care needs, and held various leadership roles. Recently, she has begun providing telepsychiatry services to broaden the access of psychiatric care to patients. TyQuitta hails from a military family, and is a current military spouse. Her research interests include military and veteran healthcare, minority mental health disparities, and vulnerable population healthcare. TyQuitta intends to focus her DNP studies on the impact of implementing telehealth in a FQHC to increase rural veterans’ access to psychiatric care.

Research/Clinical Practice Area: Jonas Veterans Healthcare Scholar – Psych-Mental Health
Dissertation: Implementing a telepsychiatry service in a FQHC for rural Veterans. This venture will serve to study the feasibility as well as the potential increases to access of care for rurally situated Veterans in upstate New York amongst other benefits.
