Whitney Smith has over 14 years of experience as an Adult and Geriatric Nurse Practitioner. She received both her BSN and MSN from the Medical University of South Carolina. She is passionate about nursing education and has been an Instructor for the Medical University of South Carolina’s online MSN/DNP program since 2013. Ms. Smith has also spent the last three years involved in several interprofessional clinical opportunities aimed at the education of MSN/DNP, PharmD, Medical, and PA students. She has spent much of her career as a provider managing acute and chronic illnesses, moving patients toward better health outcomes and a reduction in health care costs. Currently she provides primary care in two clinics for underserved populations. Ms. Smith has considerable leadership experience, which includes functioning as Lead AGNP Faculty, and as both a provider and manager for Partners in Healthcare, a nurse practitioner clinic for the uninsured. In 2015 she was recognized for her leadership and efforts in the promotion of the profession of nursing as a recipient of the Palmetto Gold for Nursing Excellence award. Ms. Smith endeavors to advance her education, beginning in the fall of 2016 she has the opportunity to do so as she enters MUSC’s DNP program.
