Biography

I am a first year PhD in Nursing student at Columbia University. I have practiced in acute/critical care, ambulatory care, women’s primary care, research and home health care. I received my bachelor of science in nursing from Adelphi University. While at Adelphi, I served as an undergraduate research assistant on a study to curb infant obesity in the Hispanic Immigrant population. After graduating from Adelphi, I worked as a bedside nurse for about 3 years on adult cardiac telemetry unit. During my first year in graduate school I was offered a position as a supervisor of public health in Home Health Care, I served in this role for about two and a half years, after which I transitioned into the role of a director of patient services in home health care. In 2011, I obtained a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with the Women?s Health Nurse Practitioner track from the University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey. Over this past year, I have taught 400 level Community Health courses to undergraduate students at The State University of New York, Empire. As a doctoral student, I plan on conducting studies that examine the relationship between nurse staffing and re-hospitalizations among home health care patients with congestive health failure (CHF).
