Melissa Boetig, CPT, AN-BC

Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences DNP
Biography

I’m currently pursuing my doctorate of nursing practice, family nurse practitioner, through the Uniformed Services University. I’m an active duty Army captain and have served for 8 years. My first position was as a staff nurse on a medical telemetry unit at Tripler Army Medical Center. In this position, I performed several extra duties to include chairperson for the Unit Practice Council, preceptor, and Education Facilitator. From there, I deployed for a year with the 10th Combat Support Hospital (CSH) to Afghanistan where I worked as an ER nurse at Camp Dwyer and Camp Bastion. Again I was responsible for coordinating staff education, but also took on the role of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner at both locations coordinating the response between other SANEs, the medical facilities, the base victims advocates, and leadership. Upon returning, I became the Clinical Nurse Officer in Charge (CNOIC) of the Family Care Ward at Evans Army Hospital. (This position is equivalent to a nurse manager or head nurse in the civilian sector.) A year later, I became the CNOIC of the Orthopedic & Podiatry Clinic. During this time at Evans ACH, I remained with the 10th CSH and continued to participate in field exercises and training with the medical and support staff. Currently, my interests within the FNP program include pediatrics, orthopedics, chronic disease, and sleep medicine. In addition, I have interests in austere/wilderness medicine.

Thomas Jefferson University DNP
Biography

Christine has worked for 25 years in oncology research. She has been a nurse for 15 years having worked the last two years in hospital administration. Christine’s nursing education started at Gloucester County College with an Associate of Science in Nursing degree followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Thomas Jefferson University. Christine plans to complete the Doctor of Nursing Practice requirements by August 2020. Christine has worked as a clinical research nurse on Phase I through III clinical trials in oncology in both community and academic settings. Christine’s introduction to hospital administration came when she was named Administrative Director of the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Network in 2016. Given the expansion of the Jefferson Health System in the last two years, this work experience has provided her with an invaluable opportunity to collaborate with interprofessional team members. Christine is currently working with the Jefferson Breast Care Center on quality measures and continues to have interest in women’s health. She would like to make contributions in the areas of women’s health screenings and clinical research by focusing on prevention, control and outcomes in the Jefferson Health catchment area. By further identifying and defining the catchment area, barriers to care could be determined and addressed by an interprofessional team of clinicians, researchers and administrators. In addition to her work, she has expressed an interest in teaching for a Nursing Informatics program. As Christine continues to develop her leadership skills as a DNP student, she hopes to participate in teaching opportunities.

Denise Bouchard, MS, RN, FNP-C

University of Southern Maine DNP
Biography

Denise Bouchard has worked as a family nurse practitioner since 2000. Eight of those years were focused in addiction recovery. Upon re-engaging in family practice, she noticed a gaping hole in the recognition and subsequent treatment of addiction. Back to school to pursue her DNP, she seeks to bridge this gap by reducing stigma, increasing provider knowledge, and access to treatment for individuals and families who suffer from this chronic treatable brain disease. Always looking for ways to support this endeavor, she’s versed in Motivational Interviewing and regularly practices Non-Violent Communication. She trusts that skills acquired while pursuing the DNP will serve her vision to contribute to facilitation of trans-disciplinary addiction care.

Elizabeth Boulette, MS, CRNA

University of San Diego PhD
Biography

Elizabeth Boulette is a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA). She has more than 30 years nursing experience that includes a nurse anesthesia practice of more than 15 years. Upon completing her BSN from San Diego State University, she was commissioned as a Navy Nurse Corps Officer in May 1987. In 1998 she began her didactic studies in anesthesia and she earned a Master of Science from Georgetown University in February 2001. She is currently a doctor of Philosophy nursing student at the University of San Diego. Ms. Boulette has served in a variety of military medicine environments: tertiary medical center, community-sized hospital, sole provider aboard several US amphibious assaults ships, isolated overseas duty station, and in the theater of combat operations. Ms. Boulette honorably retired after 28 years of naval service. Ms. Boulette derives professional satisfaction in providing her patients with a positive anesthetic experience; she particularly enjoys obstetric anesthesia. She has developed an interest in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) which is a commonly encountered medical problem in surgical patients. Having OSA can increase a variety of post operative complications but less is known about OSA in the obstetric population. Because there are many gaps in knowledge of OSA during pregnancy, Ms. Boulette would like to contribute to the growing body of knowledge by conducting a secondary analysis to determine if OSA is an independent predictor of increased hospital costs at the time of delivery in women who delivered at a military treatment facility between 2008 and 2014.
