DNPs of Color and Jonas Nursing and Veterans Healthcare launch Pathway to Publication Mentorship Program

NEW YORK, June 8, 2022 – DNPs of Color (DOCs), an organization committed to increasing diversity in nursing practice through networking, mentorship and advocacy, and Jonas Philanthropies, a nonprofit addressing high-need healthcare issues and audiences through high impact solutions, are proud to announce the launch of DNPs of Color/Jonas Nursing and Veterans Healthcare (JNVH) Pathway to Publication (PTP) mentorship program. The program aims to increase the diversity of published nursing research and data available.

“We surveyed our DNPs of Color community and found nearly 60% had not published within a year of graduation,” said DNPs of Color President Danielle McCamey, DNP, CRNP, ACNP-BC, FCCP. “DNP-prepared nurses translate nursing science into practice as a result, DNP projects demonstrate outcomes, and that’s the data we need published.”

The Pathway to Publication Mentorship Program is a twelve-week program that engages qualified, high-achieving doctoral students and current doctorally prepared nursing professionals to participate in the publication process. Mentees will be paired up with a mentor (Post-Doc) from JNVH’s Jonas Scholar program for the manuscript writing and editing process.  In addition to gaining a deep relationship with their mentor, they will learn about skills and best practices regarding the manuscript creation process to achieve their publication goals.

“With their experience as faculty, clinical leaders and researchers, our Jonas Scholar Alumni are well-positioned to serve as mentors with DOCs mentees to create publication-ready manuscripts. We are thrilled to partner with DOCs in supporting the advancement of scholarly work that is focused on closing the gap in health disparities and on advancing health equity,” said Stephen Ferrara, DNP, FNP-BC, FAANP, FAAN, the Executive Director of Jonas Nursing and Veterans Healthcare.

 “We look forward to this collaboration with Jonas scholars and DNPs of Color working to advance their careers, research, and more scholarly work to diversify the literature that will advance progress towards health equity,” said Dr. McCamey.

If you are interested in participating in this mentorship program and want to become a DOC mentee, please submit your application by July 30th.  

All applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must have a manuscript that has been drafted within the previous 2 years
  • Currently enrolled in a doctorate program or have a doctoral degree
  • Must commit to the 12-week mentorship program in its entirety
  • Identify as a nurse from historically excluded or racialized identities
