Susan D. Flynn Oncology Nursing Fellowship Program was created by Mr. Flynn in loving memory of his wife who died of ovarian cancer in 2013. Out of respect for the wonderful quality of nursing care she received during her illness, the program was developed to help stimulate the career interest and foster the professional development of potential Oncology Nurses who are rising seniors at several leading undergraduate nursing schools. Since implementing this program in 2014, it has nearly tripled — from 13 Flynn Fellows in 2014 to 33 Fellows in 2019 and has produced over 100 practicing oncology nurses to date.
“Thanks to Fred’s philanthropic vision to support oncology nursing at the doctoral-level, Jonas Nursing and Veterans Healthcare will continue to advance and support nurses in clinical practice and research,” stated Wanda Montalvo, PhD, RN, the Executive Director of Jonas Nursing and Veterans Healthcare. “We look forward to the impact that these oncology nurses will have on the health outcomes of patients in their care.”
